northern california travel Northern California travel is fascinating. San Francisco is the gateway to northern California travel, and this city has remarkable beauty and many fascinating areas for a lengthy vacation. Besides being an interesting, diverse city with something for everyone,  it is also the jumping off point for other interesting day trips. Napa Valley is not far from San Francisco, and if wine tasting is something you love, spend a day or two of your northern California travel indulging yourself in the fantastic wine and foods of this region.

The beaches north of San Francisco are also spectacular. While the ocean is not as warm as it is in Southern California for surfing or swimming, the waves are spectacular, as well as the rock formations that hug them. If you have nerves of steel, try driving north of San Francisco to Stinson Beach, a small but popular resort town located on the Pacific. This destination is on Highway 1, and parts of this highway have insanely steep drops and curves to the ocean. Even if you do not enjoy the beach, getting there will make you believe you are one of the scariest rides at the fair.
