If you live the LA area and love to ski, you are in great luck. The Big Bear resort received the most snow in 35 years over this last week, and they have a base of three to five feet of snow for all you skiers to take advantage of. When you travel Southern California, you don't expect to have to worry about snow on the roads, but this winter, the precipitation has been ample, as well as cold temperatures.
Many years, residents of the LA area have to go further north to ski, but this year, they can travel Southern California for some fine skiing. If you decide to go, make sure that your car is equipped to handle the roads. Many of the roads approaching Big Bear require chains to get up the slope safely. If you have a four wheel drive with snow tires, you'll be allowed to travel Southern California without chains where the roads are slick with ice and snow. The temperatures at the summit are in the 20's, so you'll have to dress accordingly. |
