Travel and Tourism in California is Likely to be Down This Summer |

Travel and tourism in California is a big part of its economy, but with the huge increase in gas costs, fewer people can afford to go there these days. California has some of the highest gas prices in the country because they have to use reformulated gas, which pollutes less than regular gas. Once you get to California, you will probably have a little sticker shock as you fill up with gas that hovers around $4.50 a gallon. I am going to travel Southern California in mid-September, and have already started to pinch a few pennies to pay for the extra fuel costs I will be incurring. And I'm going to do some serious bargain shopping for a decent hotel at discounted prices. I haven't been able to find any reliable statistics for this summer, but I bet that travel and tourism in California is way down this year, compared to last, simply because of the high cost of getting there. California is one big state, and crossing it even from east to west covers many, many miles. |
