Native Californian Gone New Yorker Longs to Travel Southern California Again! |

Having been born and raised in California's East Bay, I often took for granted the beauty and variety its sunny shores and crisp pines had to offer. My grandparents lived in the hills and visiting them required Northern California travel trips. They lived nestled deep in the redwoods and I can still smell the wood and sap in the air. In contrast, my friends and I would travel Southern California every summer to visit one girl's parents. They lived just outside San Diego, near the tide pools. Our long walks on the boardwalk and bonfires on the beach were definitely something you could print in a California travel guide! Picturesque sunsets over shimmering, rolling waves made for perfect evenings and excited mornings the next day.
Now that I live in upstate NY, I can see why travel and tourism in California is as large as it is. I miss those sunny days on the beach, and the smell of the cool Autumn air blowing through the crispy, crunchy pine trails. All that Vitamin D from the hot California sun just makes people happier. Moods and attitudes are so much more laid back and accepting in CA than where I live now because it is so difficult to be angry when it's sunny outside!
